A Pinch Of Trend October Beauty Life TRAVEL

Beauty on vacation: fall multitaskers to enhance
your beauty-life balance

The biggest distinction between summer and fall travel is unexpectedly trivial: the amount of stuff you have to pack. In the heat of summer, you don’t have to wear or pack that much. For fall, however, you need to have several extra layers of clothing on hand in case it gets too chilly. Skin issues are an even bigger problem. First, the drabness of your skin will force you to seek out the quickest solution—using more product—but that only adds more steps to your already convoluted skincare routine! For the fall travel season, Shinsegae Duty Free is offering a beauty and fashion guide that can help you both on vacation and at home and suggests 18 carefully screened BLB (beauty-life balance) products.

category 01. Start preparing for winter now: fall/winter skincare

It is now that time of year again—when the damage suffered by your skin during the summer starts to show. The layers of dead skin cells that protected you from the strong sunlight now seem to be stuck to your skin indefinitely by the cold and dry fall air, making it harder for your skin to absorb any product (no matter how expensive) and making it even more sensitive. This is why fall/winter skincare begins with addressing the problem of dead skin cells. If your skin starts feeling tight from early evening, you need to do three things: 1) remove dead skin cells, 2) calm your skin, and 3) restore your skin’s oil-moisture balance. To ensure that your skin has enough moisture to endure the cold winter months, you first need to do some basic, fundamental skincare.

Say good-bye to redness:
skin “tranquilizers” that offer relief from seasonal changes and jet lag

Skin that is already irritated by the sudden cold is prone to acting up at vacation destinations due to the change in water hardness. To address this problem, start with an alcohol-free toner. Your next best alternative is a product that lists “SD alcohol” in fifth place or later on its ingredient label! Choose a product that contains little or no perfumes and colorants. Also, the shorter the ingredient list, the better. Even a plant-based product can irritate your skin if has too many ingredients. Essential oils, Vitamin A, honey, and aloe are all great. But at this time of year, you have to be cautious even with these! A much safer bet is a product that contains tea tree oil, calendula, chamomile, or Centella Asiatica extract.

Moisturizing and anti-wrinkle “lifesavers” that keep damaged cells at bay

Those with normal-to-oily or normal-to-dry skin should use a lotion or cream-type moisturizer that contains glycerin. For those with extra-dry skin, we recommend a cream or balm-type moisturizer. Moisturizing is important, but you have to be careful not to overdo it. Excessive moisturizing results in excessive sebum production, which acts as a glue that keeps dead skin cells on the skin’s surface. Dull skin tone and deep wrinkles are both signs that your skin cells are losing their ability to regenerate. Antioxidants such as Vitamin C, Vitamin E, seaweed, green tea, white tea, and grapeseed will help your skin cells regain their regenerative capability.

category 02. Something for cool tones, too: warm tone makeup favorites for fall

The colors that go well with Asian skin—nude, beige, amber, gold, brown, and MLBB (My Lips But Better)—generally work for all tones of yellow. Alas, it is an open secret that these colors are best for warm-toned Asian skin (yes, there is a difference!). Those with cool-toned skin have to get by with only one or two of the above colors, meaning that they use only about 20 percent of their makeup palettes. But help has arrived! The following “Eyeshadow and Lipstick List” suggests colors that can be used for both cool- and warm-toned Asian skin.

Eyeshadows for a beautiful, smoldering gaze

If you want to make your makeup pouch a little lighter, a dark-brown eyeshadow that can double as eyeliner is a great choice! A matte color that goes on strong can create a gaze that’s a bit too intimidating. Try mixing it with a pearly color to get a much more natural look (and for less staining). For double eyelids that actually look worse the more eye makeup is applied, try colors that match your skin tone and don’t stand out. Focus on creating shadows rather than on the colors themselves.

Autumn lip colors for every occasion

Red: Particularly sought after in colder months for its ability to match with black, gray, brown, olive green, and purple clothing. If your lips are the highlight of your look, a vivid red with a high chroma is best. For a more elegant image, use a murkier red with a low chroma. MLBB: A lip color that is both natural and lively. If the tone is blurry, use a slightly oily product to showcase your lips. For a brighter hue, use a matte product to place all of the focus on the color. Coral: Are there no corals or peaches for cool tones?! Of course there are, but you have to make them yourself! Try mixing in a hint of pink. Many of the “must-have” lip colors used by celebrities are actually made by mixing several products.

category 03. If it’s not pretty, don’t wear it: beautiful fall fashion

A muffler or scarf is especially useful for fall trips. It not only creates a warm and elegant look but can double as a lap blanket, shawl, or cape. You can also tie it around the handle of your bag as an accessory. Jewelry is even more important for this year’s fall/winter season for the sparkle it adds to even the drabbest outfits. Because mufflers and jewelry are quite flexible in terms of size, they make excellent gifts that are both useful and affordable (thanks to duty free prices!).

How to wear a scarf/muffler on vacation like a model

Every traveler needs to pack an off-shoulder outfit, and a scarf matches perfectly with the elegant and sexy off-shoulder aesthetic. To make it even better, let the fabric “sag” ever so slightly on your exposed shoulders. Give yourself an exotic look with only a scarf! Weave it into ponytails or braids or use it as a hairband to get that free-wheeling, Bohemian appearance. You can also tie a petit scarf around your ankle to go with a skirt or capris, creating a more active image. When not using your muffler or scarf, simply tie it to your bag. This will keep you from losing it and prevent the fabric from getting wrinkled or frayed.

Jewelry styling tips for thick clothing

For high-neck turtlenecks, clip earrings that stick right to the earlobes are safer than drop, mobile, or hoop earrings. If the earrings are too long, you may have to deal with a tangle of fabric, jewelry, and static hair! If you want to show off your collar bones or wrists even while wearing a thick, long jacket or coat, pair an eye-catching pattern design with a thin chain to bring attention to the pattern. If you are wearing two or more pieces of jewelry (as a set), clothes with a toned-down color will bring more elegance to your look. If you like wearing simple clothes, you need colorful jewelry! Milky pearl and transparent crystal are ideal for creating a feminine mood, while a mix-and-match of colorful jewelry of different sizes creates an “unbalanced” aesthetic that is better for casual attire.
