Shinsegae Duty Free has revolutionized the duty-free industry by installing the first-ever future state-of-the-art wireless transparent display using "Organic Light Emitting Diode (OLED)" technology at its Incheon International Airport branch.
Innovative Display Technology
For the first time in the duty-free sector, Shinsegae Duty Free has introduced LG Electronics' 55-inch Transparent OLED displays across seven key areas at Incheon International Airport, including Terminals 1 and 2 and boarding buildings. This move leverages LG Display's groundbreaking transparent OLED technology, which recently earned top honors at the CES 2024, the world's largest home appliance and IT exhibition.
Enhanced Visual Experience
The Transparent OLED displays feature self-luminous pixels that deliver high contrast ratios and vibrant color reproduction, creating dramatic visual effects by overlaying real and video content. This unique technology enhances the retail environment, allowing multi-layered configurations that bring products to life with text animation and 3D modeling, providing a rich, immersive visual experience.
Improving Information Delivery
Traditionally, duty-free information at airports has been limited by the readability issues associated with printed materials. The new transparent OLED displays overcome these limitations by presenting various information forms, such as images, in a clear and engaging manner. This approach not only improves information dissemination but also integrates seamlessly with the store's interior, even when the display is not actively used.
Aesthetic and Functional Integration
The Transparent OLED technology allows users to view the electronic display panel's background while offering a clear screen, ensuring the displays do not disrupt the store's aesthetic when not in use. Shinsegae I&C has specifically designed and manufactured the Transparent OLED displays for the Incheon International Airport branch, taking into account its unique characteristics.
Shinsegae Duty Free previously showcased its transparent OLED display at the Nam June Paik exhibition last year. Building on this success, Shinsegae Duty Free plans to develop and introduce unique digital content tailored to maximize the potential of these wireless transparent displays.
A Shinsegae Duty Free spokesperson stated, "By integrating transparent OLED displays with innovative content and marketing activities, we aim to offer an unparalleled visual experience and create a distinctive customer experience. We expect this new technology to attract significant attention from both domestic and international tourists, showcasing the unique effects and content only possible with wireless transparent displays."
