Shinsegae Duty Free conducts campaign on captivating destinations in Italy

- First campaign of 2023 to feature travel content designed in cooperation with Italian National Tourist Board
- Myeongdong branch to showcase Bergamo and Brescia, cities in Lombardy that are famous for their arts
- Collaborated with noted graphic design studio Contraflow and illustrator Seolzzi

Shinsegae Duty Free is conducting a visual campaign on the beauty, romantic appeal, and culture and arts of Italian cities.

The subjects of this initial campaign are Bergamo and Brescia, two major cities in Lombardy (administrative region in northern Italy) that were selected in cooperation with the Italian National Tourist Board through a strict screening process.

Bergamo, known as the “heart of the Middle Ages,” is located near the Alps and home to the Venetian Works of Defence (also known simply as the "Venetian Walls"), a UNESCO World Heritage Site. It is a city with a rich history that houses the works of master Renaissance painters such as Botticelli and Raphael.

Brescia features the picturesque Lake Garda and Val Camonica, or “Valley of Signs,” which is engraved with over 140,000 petroglyphs that date back to prehistoric times. It is also home to the Franciacorta wine region, which is known as the “Silicon Valley of Italian wine,” where visitors can enjoy diverse wines and excellent food.

The attractions of both cities have been visualized in several key images with the help of Contraflow, a graphic design studio that links up-and-coming artists with corporate projects.

Seolzzi (@seol.zzi), an illustrator known for drawings that incorporate aspects of reality and the imaginary, conveyed the beauty of Italy’s natural features as quirky characters in her signature warm, vivid colors.

Seolzzi is the author and illustrator of several children’s books (e.g. The Gift, Seolzzi’s Drawing Art Book) and has collaborated with major brands, including Naver, Samsung, LG, and Tiffany & Co.

The media façade outside of the Shinsegae Duty Free Myeongdong branch will be screening three items of content: “Bergamo, the Heart of the Middle Ages”; “Eight Ways to Enjoy the Alps in Bergamo”; and “Brescia, a City with a Lake, Mountains, History, Culture, and Scenic Beauty.”

A Shinsegae Duty Free spokesperson said, “We are pleased to kick off 2023 by providing customers with entertaining and informative content on the attractions of Italy, a destination that best embodies the romantic appeal of travel. Shinsegae Duty Free hopes to provide an indirect but nevertheless immersive experience of this beautiful country’s tourism resources.”
