Shinsegae Duty Free is the only Korean duty free store to offer products by Lloyd, a domestic jewelry brand.
Sales of Lloyd’s basic, everyday jewelry items have been increasing recently. Before the COVID-19 pandemic, the company’s clientele was made up of primarily Chinese tourists. Since the post-pandemic reopening, however, its clientele has come to include customers from not only Korea but also Southeast Asia and the United States.
In response to the jewelry brand’s popularity, Shinsegae Duty Free opened a store for Lloyd, offering everything from gold jewelry in basic, simple designs to semi-luxury fine jewelry items, on the ninth floor of its Myeongdong branch. Lloyd has recently gained significant attention for its new collection of affordably-priced luxury jewelry, which was born through close communication with and feedback from customers. It is this line, made from lab-grown diamonds and thus titled “L-Diamond,” that will be the predominant product on display at Myeongdong.
Lab-grown diamonds are, as the name suggests, eco-friendly diamonds created by growing seeds from natural diamonds in a laboratory. They are completely identical (physically, chemically, and optically) to natural diamonds but priced between 30 and 40 percent cheaper.
A Shinsegae Duty Free spokesperson said, “We expect that the products of Lloyd, which offers elegant, luxury jewelry at reasonable prices, will be popular with many customers of all ages. We encourage everyone to enjoy a special jewelry-shopping experience with duty free benefits for the brand’s signature gold items as well as the new L-Diamond line.”
