- Support provided for construction of Eco Schools in Jung-gu
On the afternoon of September 29 (Thursday), Shinsegae Duty Free presented a donation to Jung-gu Office at the latter’s headquarters to be used for its “Eco School” project.
At the ceremony, Mun Hyun-gyu, head of Shinsegae Duty Free Myeongdong, presented KRW 30 million to Mayor Kim Kil-sung of Jung-gu.
The Eco School project aims to transform unused spaces at elementary schools into nature learning areas, eco-friendly rest areas, and other kinds of spaces that create a nature-friendly learning environment that is conducive to students’ psychological growth and character development. The project aims to give students a lasting understanding of environmental problems (e.g. climate change, carbon neutrality) through physical interactions with their surroundings.
Shinsegae Duty Free’s donation is slated to be used for Namsan Elementary School.
In addition to its four years working to preserve Yeongjong-do’s mudflats, Shinsegae Duty Free is the first in Korea’s retail industry to implement tangible measures for environmental conservation. Notable examples are its use of “green bags,” or specially-cut paper, in lieu of bubble wrap and replacement of disposable plastic bags with a moving rack system to cut down on plastic use.
A Shinsegae Duty Free official said, “We will continue participating in social contribution activities as a leading corporate citizen advocate of environmental conservation for the coexistence of nature and humans.”
