Since August 10, Shinsegae Duty Free’s Incheon International Airport branch has been lit up with a dash of pink—the “Zanmang Loopy” corner, which showcases the favorite Pororo character in the Toys & Electronics section.
The lifting of all international flight restrictions in June is, in tandem with the peak summertime travel season, leading to a significant increase in foreign tourists. Accordingly, Shinsegae Duty Free is actively refurbishing its airport locations to receive customers once again by opening new brand shops and holding various promotional events.
The section themed on Zanmang Loopy, a character that is immensely popular among Gen MZ, is located in Terminal 2. Along with other Pororo characters and Kakao Friends, she is expected to be a favorite with travelers of all nationalities.
Zanmang Loopy is an alter-ego of Loopy, Pororo’s beaver friend, whose exaggerated cheerfulness is based on Gen MZ memes. She even has her own Instagram account, which currently has 170,000 followers, and is so popular that she has been featured in collaborations with food products, movie theaters, and baseball teams. Most recently, Zanmang Loopy became the mascot of Jeju Air.
The Incheon International Airport branch sells 50 types of Zanmang Loopy products, including fabric dolls, cushions, keyrings, PopSockets, figurines, and notebooks.
Additionally, the branch recently opened new stores of several Korean beauty brands, including DrG, Abib, Cell Fusion C, Isoi, Suiskin, and Luna. Second stores of Clio, Dear Dahlia, and CNP Cosmetics were opened in the both passenger terminals.
A Shinsegae Duty Free official said, “The number of outbound travelers in July is 35% higher than that for June and approximately 30% of the figure for 2019. We hope that the Zanmang Loopy corner and new K-beauty stores make duty-free shopping even more fun for customers. We will continue doing everything we can to make shopping a fun and satisfying experience.”
