Shinsegae Duty Free takes the lead in protecting Yeongjong-do’s mudflats

- One of multiple conservation activities undertaken, in commemoration of World Environment Day, for Korea’s environment
- Will be assisting with recovering illegal fishing nets and protecting endangered species of Yeongjong-do
- Has sponsored protective activities for Yeongjong-do, one of world’s five largest mudflats, since 2019

Shinsegae Duty Free will be engaging in environmental conservation activities, as it has in previous years, for the mudflats of Yeongjong-do.

On June 9 (Thursday), the Incheon International Airport branch held a ceremony in which Green Incheon was given a donation for Yeongjong-do’s mudflats.

Shinsegae Duty Free, which has participated in efforts to preserve Yeongjong-do’s mudflats (one of the world’s five largest) since 2019, donated KRW 10 million for activities to raise awareness of the mudflats’ value (e.g. photo exhibition, conferences, programs for general public).

Green Incheon holds demonstrations to protest plans to reclaim land in tidal flat areas and demand the designation of protective areas to protect the endangered species inhabiting Yeongjong-do (e.g. milky fiddler crab, crane, black-faced spoonbill). It also carries out diverse activities on preserving the island’s tidal flats.

Shinsegae Duty Free anticipates that the donation will help protect Yeongjong-do’s mudflats and increase the public’s awareness of the need to protect Korea’s natural environment.

A Shinsegae Duty Free official said, “We are delighted to help with preserving Yeongjong-do’s mudflats this year for the fourth time. Shinsegae Duty Free will continue undertaking various social contribution activities for environmental protection.”
