Shinsegae Duty Free is embarking on a quest for digital transformation with the aim of blurring the
boundary between online and in-store shopping.
On the 22nd of this month, the company will open “selective shops” for the popular Kenzo, Marc
Jacobs, Chloé, and Stuart Weitzman boutiques at Shinsegae Duty Free's Myeongdong store.
The selective shops are accessible through the event post on the branch website or by scanning QR
codes at the boutique.
The beauty of selective shops is that customers can preview the products that merchandisers
recommend before going shopping, avoiding unnecessary physical contact with store staff.
Clicking a product image on the screen will take the customer to the Shinsegae Duty Free shopping
mall website. After checking the price and details online, the shopper may buy the product on the
spot. Naturally, this new approach will significantly increase shopping convenience for
customers.
Meanwhile, a Kakao Friends Self-Serve Store was opened on the 11th floor of the Shinsegae Duty Free
Store in Myeongdong on the 13th of this month.
The best products of Kakao Friends are displayed on the kiosk screen and, just like the select
shops, the purchase process begins by scanning a QR code. There is also a photo booth where visitors
can take pictures with Ryan, a popular Kakao Friends character. On the opening day, those who made a
purchase of at least USD 30 and presented their picture with Ryan at the Customer Service were
qualified to participate in a promotional event. The first 20 were gifted with a Kakao Friends
pillow, heightening customers’ excitement and delight.
A Shinsegae Duty Free official said, “Shinsegae Duty Free is working in various ways to create a
more convenient shopping environment by combining the advantages of store visits with the ease of
