Shinsegae Duty Free introduced WeChat Pay facial recognition payment system for the first-time outside China on October 29. WeChat is a well-known Chinese messenger service with 1.1 billion users and provides a convenient payment function. It hasrecentlyexpanded into a facial recognition payment service, which is popular enough to be used in many areas such as retail stores, medical services, food and beverages, hotels, etc. in China. Shinsegae initially uses WeChat pay facial recognition payment system in approximately 40 stores, including Shinsegae Myeong-dong and Incheon International Airport branches, and then gradually expand its range. By providing the advanced payment service through the collaboration with WeChat Pay, it is expected that the shopping convenience of Chinese customers will be maximized. WeChat Pay facial recognition system can be used by any Chinese who has completed user authentication within the WeChat application. All payments will be completed within 10 seconds by standing still and looking into the facial recognition sensor with 99.99% accuracy. Since the facial payment system allows payments without cards and mobile phones, it is not only convenient but will also give customers a better shopping experience by reducing waiting time with quick payment and transaction approval. Shinsegae Duty Free has been providing various service for Chinese tourists, such as opening ‘Membership club’ WeChat mini-app this August for the first time in the Korean duty free industry for their shopping convenience. A Shinsegae Duty Free authority said that “we will strive continuously to provide a convenient shopping environment for Chinese tourists.” Meanwhile, it will also run an open promotion offering random discounts up to 88 yuan for customers paying with WeChat Pay’s facial recognition system. |
